Athens to Delphi by bus: a day trip guide
Delphi is one of the most popular trips from Athens, and you can do it by public bus. It makes a long day, so plan the transport first.
Checked 9 October 2026. Bus times and site opening hours: check the official sites on the day.
Why Delphi
UNESCO has listed the Archaeological Site of Delphi as a World Heritage Site since 1987. It is the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Apollo, set between the Phaedriades rocks of Mount Parnassus in the regional unit of Phocis, Central Greece.
Getting there by bus
- Visit Greece states that KTEL intercity buses connect Delphi with Athens, Livadia and Itea, and that daily services from Athens take approximately 2.5 hours.
- The operator is KTEL Fokidas. It lists its Athens agency at Liosion 260, 104 45 Athens (tel. +30 210 8317096) and its Delphi agency at Apollonos 8. Timetables: ktel-fokidas.gr.
- From the airport, OASA's X93 bus goes to the Kifissos and Liosion intercity stations (about 65 minutes). Check which terminal your Delphi bus leaves from.
Day trip or overnight?
At about 2.5 hours each way, you spend around five hours on the bus, so a same-day return is a long day. Visit Greece notes that many visitors spend a few hours in Delphi before or after visiting the archaeological site, and that the Parnassos ski resort is close by in winter. Staying a night, in Delphi or nearby Arachova, makes the visit calmer.
Tickets and opening hours
We do not publish ticket prices or opening hours for the site. Check the Hellenic Ministry of Culture (culture.gov.gr) before you travel.
