How to visit Greece (without the folklore timetable)
Fly in, get to the city, then choose sea or road. This site is a straight inbound briefing: airports, the ATH transfer, ferry hubs, KTEL, and four region overviews. Dated 2 September 2026.
I write this as someone who actually uses these systems — not as a licensed agency. If a number is not on an official page, I will not invent it.
The usual path
- Pick the airport that matches the trip — ATH for most first visits; SKG for the north; HER/CHQ for Crete; JTR if you are going straight to Santorini.
- If you land at ATH and need Athens or Piraeus: metro Line 3 or the X95 bus.
- Islands in the Aegean: Piraeus or Rafina. Check Blue Star, Seajets or Fast Ferries on their sites. Times: check operator.
- Mainland cities: KTEL — many companies, not one national app.
- Decide the region: Athens, Cyclades, Crete, Ionian.
Entry, not folklore
Greece is in the Schengen area. Visa and Entry/Exit System rules are official, not blog lore. Start at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa pages and the EU EES notices published by airports such as SKG. This site will not guess whether you need a visa.
