Athens airport to the city centre: a step-by-step guide
You have landed at Athens International Airport (ATH). This guide takes you from arrivals to the city centre or Piraeus using only figures published by the airport and by OASA, the Athens public transport authority.
Checked 9 October 2026. Times and last trains: check the operator on the day.
Step 1: choose by time, luggage and destination
- Daytime, light bags, hotel near a metro station (Syntagma, Monastiraki): Metro Line 3.
- Late at night or with large luggage: the X95 bus to Syntagma, which OASA runs 24 hours a day.
- Straight to a ferry: the X96 bus or Metro Line 3 toward Piraeus.
- Straight to a long-distance KTEL coach: the X93 bus to the Kifissos and Liosion bus stations.
Step 2: Metro Line 3 (Blue Line)
The airport states that Metro Line 3 connects the airport with central Athens and with Piraeus (Dimotiko Theatro), and gives an estimated 60 minutes from the airport to Piraeus. Buy airport tickets at the machines in the terminal. We do not quote a metro fare, because the official pages cited here do not publish one we can verify. The metro does not run all night.
Step 3: the X95 Airport Express bus
- Route: airport ↔ Syntagma Square (metro lines 2 and 3).
- Hours: 24-hour operation, according to OASA.
- Journey: about 60 minutes, depending on traffic (OASA estimate).

- Boarding and alighting are restricted along the route. OASA information line: 11185.
